Are sign-in sessions expiring after some period of inactivity?

Solved!

Are sign-in sessions expiring after some period of inactivity?

What Spotify is doing to log-in sessions that are technically inactive, but somebody didn't log out fully (e.g. did a phone reset, closed incognito mode etc.). Are free-floating sessions being closed after some time of inactivity? I'm asking cause I used today incognito chrome mode to make sure what my pass for Spotify is (I didn't want to use my regular browser for that) and I'm not 100% sure I logged out after making sure it is correct. I don't want to use 'log out from all devices' since I'm not concerned about someone else having acces or something. I'm using Spotify for more than 6 years and I'm sure I probably have more sessions like that (that were initiated and then abandoned). So my question is - are these sessions active forever?

Hi there @natalia_z,

Thanks for the post.

This is largely dependent on the device. On a PC when logging in via an incognito browser window, you'll be automatically logged out once the browser is closed, as any other service opened in incognito mode.

The app will usually log you out if the device updates and saved log-in details are cleared.

It good to know that on some smart speakers/ sound systems or gaming consoles your account will stay logged in until you manually log out. This is again very device specific, as in such cases you link your Spotify account to another service, like Play Station's PSN for example.

You can check what services your Spotify account is linked to and disable any unknown or unwanted ones by doing this:

  1. Go to your Account Overview page.
  2. Click Apps.
  3. Click Remove Access for any app you don't know or you don't want to have access to Spotify. This will, in turn disconnect your account.

If you have a suspicion that your account is logged in devices that someone else has access to, you can use the Log out Everywhere feature, and log back in only on the devices you're currently using.

Hope this helps 🙂

Thank you for this exhaustive answer, it helps indeed! I was worried only about this incognito mode and my old sessions that were initiated using devices that I factory reset (PC or phone) some time ago. I don't use Spotify account for anything more than PC and phone. Also I don't have any suspicions somebody else has access to my account, rather I was thinking if not logging out manually from certain sessions can cause some mess in data, but if these sessions log out by itself then great! Thanks again.
