Can you add songs to a joint playlist with a free Spotify account?

I've made a joint playlist for colleagues so they can add their own favorite music. Now one of my colleagues told me she can't add tracks to the playlist. She has a free Spotify account. So i wonder if you can only add tracks to a joint playlist if you have a paid account?
