I get an error message when trying to connect my account to Facebook manually through the site and through the iPhone app. Any suggestions? Seems to be a common problem after looking through here but no fix has been posted.

That's odd. In this case, we'd like you to try to link your Facebook profile with Spotify one more time with these steps. We suggest that you try it from the Spotify app in a desktop computer.
If you get an error while doing it, send us a screenshot.
Also, do you think you've used your Facebook profile to create a different Spotify account in the past?

@Julian I may have I’m not sure ... this account is years old so perhaps I’ve made another. Still not working I’ve tried every angle. Attached screenshot.

Just to confirm, did you try to do the process also from the app on a desktop computer? If you haven't, we'd like you to give it a try.
Also, we'd like you to log out from your account on the Spotify app. Then, try to access again by using the blue "Log in with Facebook" button (make sure not to click on sign up) and use your Facebook email and password to log in. If you can access to an account, it's because you have a second account with your FB profile. If you can't access any account, let us know.
@Julian I tried logging out and logging in with the Facebook icon and it took me to an account I already have. So what seems to be the issue is I already have created an account via Facebook already.
Thats is a free account and I use a premium account is there any chance I can unlink that account and connect my premium account to Facebook ?

In this case, you can close your FB-created account from your end. In order to do it, you only need to follow these steps. We suggest that you do it from a computer, using a Google Chrome incognito window. When you're in the process, make sure to use the Log in with Facebook option so you access and delete the right account.
Once your FB-created account has been closed, you'll be able to link your profile with your Spotify account.
