How To Connect Spotify To Alexa

How To Connect Spotify To Alexa

To link the Alexa to Spotify, just download the Alexa app, open it, and link your Spotify account with these steps:

  1. Tap the menu in the top-left.
  2. Tap Settings, then Music.
  3. Select Spotify, then Link account to Alexa.
  4. Enter your Spotify account details.

You can then set Spotify as a default music service, so you don’t need to specify “on Spotify” at the end of your voice commands:

  1. Tap the menu in the top-left.
  2. Tap Settings, then Music.
  3. Tap Choose default music services.
  4. Select Spotify and tap DONE.

Now just ask Alexa to play something! E.g. "Alexa, play Discover Weekly".

This is not working for me.  I've followed the steps, but Alexa won't play through spotify.

Hi @p07r0457!

Could you give us a bit more information on what's happening on your end? Does this happen when you attempt to play a specific playlist, or with all playlists/content in general? Have you tried playing music from another device (for example your phone or computer), then switching playback over to the smart speaker using Spotify Connect?

If possible, try unlinking your Spotify account from the Alexa app and then link another one instead (a friend's or a relative's would do) to see you'd get the same behavior.

If you haven't already, feel free to check out this article for more info on how to play music with Alexa. Be sure to check out this relevant thread as well for more troubleshooting tips.

Cheers!

Hello.  This happens every time.  I've tried asking for specific songs, artists, albums -- none of it works.  For example, I will say "Alexa, play Good Charlotte on Spotify" and it will respond: "To use Spotify, you'll need to download it or upgrade your app when it is safe to do so".

I am able to play music directly in the Spotify app, including selecting specific songs/artists/albums.  Alexa is what does not work to control Spotify.

I have tried unlinking the Alexa/Spotify accounts, signing out of both, signing back in, and re-linking -- but the result is the same.

I am at a loss.  I don't know what else to do.

Hey @p07r0457,

Thanks for the reply.

Partner integrations of the Spotify API function differently than the Spotify app itself. We're not able to reproduce this issue on our end and it'll be difficult to navigate you through different Alexa settings. As much as we want to help, we need to suggest to you to contact Amazon support on this matter, as it seems related to the Alexa device setup in some way.

Hope this helps,

Cheers!

They advised me to contact Spotify — which is why I’m here.  I wanted to call Spotify, but I can’t find a phone number on your website, despite being a paid customer.  I guess this settles it, though.  Time to cancel my subscription and find a competitor.  So, I guess thanks for confirming that’s the only solution.
