Hi there. I've just subscribed to spotify unlimited for £4.99 per month. I've put in my card details but when I go to play any track I get a pop up saying only premium users can play on demand. What am I paying for?

Spotify unlimited gives you unlimited ad-free access to Spotify on the desktop applications. 

By the sounds of it, you are attempting to use Spotify on a mobile device which requires a premium subscription. If you want to upgrade have a read at this help page for details.
