Why do I need a monthly subscription to listen to music offline ?

Hi there Spotify Customer Care Agent, 

I installed the spotify app on google play and was given a 48 hour free trial. I downloaded some music and now I am told that I must have a Premium subscription in order to stream it on my tablet. As it is already downloaded I wanted to listen to it offline as the data charge for live mobile streaming is punitive. Do I need a subscription to listen to music offline ? I find this a bit odd as I had a 30 day trial on google music and everything I downloaded there is still available to me through the google play music on my tablet at no charge to me. A 120 euro bill per year to listen to offline music on my tablet is crazy ! I understand that I can listen to it on a computer but I dont know how to put apps on the computer or to sync music. 

Some people on the faq are talking about a spotify free but I have only been given the option for the premium. 

I would just prefer to pay for the music per track or album without paying for a subscription. Is that possible? 

Can you advise of options please ?

Yes, you need an active Spotify Premium subscription to use Spotify on any mobile device and to use offline playlists.
