'Add to Playlist' - playlist order is random

'Add to Playlist' - playlist order is random

My Question or Issue

When I listen to a song and I want to add it to my playlists the order of the playlists is completely random.

(I think this is like that since approximately a month ago when a new layout was coming out. Since the playlist 'songs, that you like' (German: 'Songs, die dir gefallen') was pinned on top of the other playlists.)

I have selected Custom (German: Benutzerdefiniert) to make sure all my playlists have the order like on my computer.

But when I try to add a song to a playlist (and only then) my playlists are in completely random order.

I have no clue what to do because there is no way of sorting the playlists at the moment when you want to add the song into your playlist.

Please help me! 😞

im having this exact problem. the order of my playlists are completely random on my android phone even though i put them in order on desktopspotify.pngScreenshot_20190704-170805_Spotify.jpg

This is so annoying. I hope this will be fixed by an update or something.
Or does anyone know how to change it?

Your problem can be fixed easily by swiping up and clicking on 'filter'. There you can sort the playlists how you like.

My problem is that the order of the playlists is only being showed wrong when I try to add a song to a playlist.

Hey folks,

Thanks for posting about this in the Community 🙂

@ekkstyn - thanks for providing that answer. We recently changed the way Your Library looks, and now you have to swipe down to reveal the Filter option. Once you have that, you can choose to display your playlists in customer order, which matches the way they appear in your desktop app.

As for your original question - since the update, this is now the expected behaviour of the app after the new update, so that playlists are now sorted by most relevant.

If you preferred the old way of sorting playlists, we encourage you to create a new idea for it in the Community by going here. The more votes it gets from users, the more likely it is that Spotify will implement it in the future.

Hope that helps! Let us know if you have any other questions.

Please just change it to the way it was before.

It really does not make any sense to me why the playlists would be sorted in a way Spotify thinks the playlists are relevant. Why would I choose an order for my playlists if Spotify just sorts it differently? 😄

Why are you labeling this as solved? It isn’t solved.  Your last update broke it now you need to fix it.  Then it will be solved.

Yeah.. the order you see is recently played or recently added songs. Something like that, its really annoying tho!

Spotify doesn’t give a good goddam

So the idea is to pray to Spotify that it won’t be stupid with my music and my money?

It seems that the order of playlists in the "Add to playlist" screen is dictated by the order that you have the sorted on the regular playlists screen. Just sort this by date updated / created / whatever you want and the order on the "Add to playlist" screen will update to reflect this.

No that’s incorrect. The add to playlist order is random as far as I can tell.

What you describe is how it was and SHOULD work. But since some kind of update months ago they changed it. So your playlist screen is ordered like however you want. But the add to playlist screen is ordered by recently played. Which is the stupidest thing ever.

I have got a better idea instead of voting for it. How about you implement the idea from the idea exchange, since you are aware of it. Its been freaking months and there is no good explanation/excuse why it works this way. Its honestly ridiculous! We shouldn't even have to vote or mention it. You should know if you use your own product! You cant tell me you also dont find it irritating and useless. Come up with an update and change it!

Exactly

This is how Spotify used to be. Either you’re hidden from updates or you’re working for Spotify

This was such an unfortunate and misguided change! Like seriously, this is one of the main interactions in the app and it's ruined! I guess it's fine if you have 5 playlists, but I have hundreds and adding to a playlist is unusable now. Not to mention that a playlist you just created is unfindable this way. If you really feel there's value in sorting it this way, please do what countless other user experiences have done and show the top 3 relevant playlists at the top followed by the order a user has already said they prefer in their playlist order below it. Please fix!! This is not a new feature...this is fixing a really bad UX change!!! PLEASE!

My thoughts exactly...

It's been over a year since this post was made, the original "idea" (which is just a bug report actually since the problem didn't exist prior to some update last year) has +300 votes and since then there's been countless updates to the app, but none of that has helped fixing this specific and very annoying problem.

Meanwhile they keep telling us to "upvote the ideas" so that they see what should be implemented. What for then? Feels like the Spotify team just doesn't listen or cares for their customers. Want to prove me wrong? Just fix the problem that's been repeatedly reported for over a year already. Damn...
