Albums' Donwloaded Icons Gone But 27GB Files Still There

Albums' Donwloaded Icons Gone But 27GB Files Still There

So a few days ago i downloaded 27GB worth of albums from Spotify to my 128GB SDCard on my phone.

Today, the downloaded indicator shows as no longer downloaded (the slide button to download) and the downloaded icon is no longer there and can no longer play them offline.

Yet, per Spotify and my SDCard - the Spotify albums are still there, still taking up 27GB

Spotify is showing that it can see the data on the SDCard, so it knows it is there, but the actual individual album entries tell me that it is not downloaded.

After testing another handful of albums, it appears what triggers this break in the link between Spotify and the actual files is powering off the phone and powering it back on.

How do i get Spotify to relink the albums to their corresponding files? There must be a way as they do exist still.

Tried a clear cache \ reinstall but no luck - and Spotify still sees that the data is on the SDCard;

Am going to be utterly gutted if i find this is going to be beset by freaky bugs like this, especially if resolution is solely going to be on a "best endeavours" basis and i find i am going to have to keep downloading albums for offline listening.

All for the sake of a BASIC function, (powering the device off and on) actually BREAKING fundamental and PAID FOR functionality (the link between Spotify and its files).  In 2017.  😕

. There is a similar unanswered query with no replies from 2016:(\https://community.spotify.com/t5/Android/Downloaded-Albums-no-longer-appear-in-Downloads-listing-but...

I saw another too i don't have the link to and that had no solution.

So am hoping some tech in Spotify or some layman guru out there to come to our rescue… please 😕

Once spotify doesn't recognise the cache folder, all you can do is to manually delete it and redownload. The folder is android/data/com.spotify.music. There's no way to get spotify to see the cache once it becomes unlinked.

I restart my phone from time to time and have never encountered this issue but, from other posts, I believe that powering off the mobile while spotify is actually playing will cause the downloads to go missing.

Hi Joe, thanks for the reply, it is appreciated.

I have shut down after clean closing all apps just through old school force of habit, so it won't be with songs still playing in the background.

Am going to start all over again... 😞       I jsut hope some tech out there in Spotify land comes up with an update that fixes this.

Just one final thought. If your SD card is encrypted, you need to delay starting spotify for a few minutes after powering on your mobile.

ahh.. it is encrypted... so maybe this borked it if i didn't wait to open Spotify (which i cannot honestly recall).  I configured it so it is a seen as fully internal to nudge Spotify along into accepting it for having albums downloaded to it.

Will bear this in mind going forward and will see if it sorts it

Thanks for your assitance Joe 😄  Appreciated again.

My pleasure, my friend.
