[Android] Won't play after being on pause for a long time

[Android] Won't play after being on pause for a long time

Starting a few days ago (12/10/22) I started having problems with Spotify on my phone (Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra). Whenever I pause playback for a long stretch (+10 minutes) and then try to resume playback, Spotify will play the rest of whatever song it was on when I paused but will then stop playback. It won't respond to the play button. I can still navigate around the app, it will just not play. I tried closing the app and reopening, rebooting the phone, resetting the bluetooth connection. The only thing that works is uninstalling and then reinstalling the app. However, I drive for work and I'm pausing music for long stretches a handful of times a day and reinstalling 5+ times is a non-starter. No issues in 8 months with this phone.

I can confirm that this is happening on my Fold 4 as well. I have disabled battery optimisation and have it set as "locked", but still ... every time I get to my car and start playing, it plays the song till the end, and stops.

Yes also getting this problem on nboth my phone with the app and on my computer with Windows, so it definitely appears to be a new bug in Spotify. I have been able to continue with the playlist as long as I know where the last track played was by gou=ing back to the playlist and then selecting the next track. Not too hard on computer but not ideal when driving. Now how can we report this as a bug to Spotify???

Contacted support and advised this is a known problem and they're working on a fix.

Hi all, just checking if this is the same case for you. I have 2 main issues:

1. After pausing a song and it connecting to my car bluetooth, it auto plays but only the last song played and not progress to the rest of the playlist. Same case right? It also happens to me when I dont connect to bluetooth.

2. After that when i try to start a different playlist, the play button does not respond. I can't restart the same playlist cause it just shows a pause button. I can't change songs cause the lower bar showing now playing also disappears. Restarting the app doesn't rectify the solution also.

I wonder if both issues are related but its been going on for at least a fortnight for me.

Yes this sounds like the same problem that Spotify advise is being worked on even though it didn't seem to be in their known issues yesterday, haven't checked that today.

It's also doing that on my computer.

If you are aware of the playlist that's playing when it freezes then by going to that playlist and selecting the next track it will play on from there.
