App stopped being able to put to sleep

Hi I've been using Spotify for 3 years continuously
But in the last week I have stopped being able to put the app to sleep when not using it
I have a Samsung device and it has a non removable battery
So preserving battery life, as I am a power user is precious to me as I have paid for a top dollar device
Can any one give me any advice as to why all of a sudden I can not put the app to sleep no more
I haven't had any updates for it to change and I don't see the need why the app needs to be awake using my battery life and I also presume it is now either data mining or monitoring what I am doing
This has really got under my under my bonnet
