App unresponsive, buggy, uses massive amount of mobile data even when data disabled

Every day when I open the app, it takes literally minutes to become responsive. Browsing through the preset stations usually - but not always - works fine, but going through my own music takes forever to load.

For example, when I list all my artists, it starts listing them, but then many of them are marked as "0", and I have to go back and forth several times to get them all to load. I think the app is downloading my artists, playlists, etc. from the cloud every day (?), and not doing much caching. After the couple of minutes of unresponsiveness the app is pretty good, though.

Then there's the other serious bug where the app doesn't release any memory when unchecking and removing songs from my phone. I have to clear all data on my Spotify every time I run out of space, which means re-downloading everything, and figuring out what I want on my phone. Again.

But last straw was today: Spotify used 61 megs of mobile data, burning through my entire prepaid card worth 20 EUR within minutes! I had "Download using cellular" unchecked, double-checked it.

I would really like to like Spotify and its convenience, but such severe bugs and poor usability make for a broken app. Has it always been like this? Is there any hope this will get better, or should I look for the competition?

I'm nearing the end of my free trial, and I can't see myself paying for such a poor service on a monthly basis.
