My Question or Issue

I'm totally new to Spotify. I have used Google Music for several years and was quite satisfied. There is one unrelated reason I switched away from them and try out Spotify.

But trying the Android app connected via BT to my car entertainment system (Audi MMI) I'm quite dissatisfied compared to Google:

With Google Music I could browse and control my playlists from within the car system. E.g. going back the hierarchy to another playlist or select certain songs from the playlist via scrolling and selecting in the car menu.

With Spotify this seems not to work and I always only can see the currently played song. For me this is a major disadvantage as I'm not used to touch my mobile when driving. Actually as you might know this is also only allowed under certain circumstances.

For me this is almost a blocker comparing to what I'm coming from and could be a reason to go back to Google.

Is there any possibility to support this feature in the Spotify app?

Hey @wolfi19,

Thanks for reaching out to us about this.

Do you mind providing us with some more info about how you're listening to Spotify in your car?

Specifically, it would help to know whether you're connecting to your car's multimedia system.

If so, could you let us know the make and model of your car?

Once we have that, we'll try our best to help you make the most of Spotify in your car.

Thanks - keep us posted!

Hi,

thanks for the feedback.

Yes, I'm connecting via Bluetooth to my car's entertainment system.

The car is an Audio Q5 (model 2017) with its MMI (plus) system.

I've tested Google Music, Amazon Music and Spotify with the same mobile phone. Spotify does not give me access to the media player content (current and saved playlists) while Google Music does. The MMI system shows just "Mediaplayer" for Spotify but for Google Music it also says Google Music and when clicking on it I find my playlists and stuff and while playing Music I can browser through them.

This is quite an essential feature to me.

Hey @wolfi19,

Thanks for getting back to me.

Unfortunately Spotify isn't currently supported by Audi's MMI.

There is, however, an idea in the Idea Exchange which you can add your vote to here.

You can learn a bit more about how your feedback reaches Spotify via the Idea Exchange in this Spotify Answer.

Hope that helps clear things up! Let me know if you have any further questions about any of the above.

Hi @Peter,

I'm not sure if we are talking about the same thing.

While it might be technically possible that Audi did something special for Google Music it does not really look like it.

In all cases (Google, Amazon, Spotify) I'm always using the BT Media Player. There is no Google App within the MMI as far as I'm aware of. The connection between the phone and the car is just BT in all cases.

Still with Google I get media navigation while with Spotify I don't.

My guess is that this is about

Just found https://community.spotify.com/t5/iOS-iPhone-iPad/AVRCP-1-4/td-p/960001 and I think this is exactly the same. But apparently Spotify does not care since 2014?
