Hey @Nishant24,

Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome.

In this case, we'd suggest to switch off Show local devices only in the Spotify mobile app Settings > Devices. This lets the app see devices that currently aren’t on your WiFi network.

If this behavior persists once you've done that, we'd like to gather some additional info. Would you mind sending us the exact Spotify version you are running on both your devices? You can find out the version by following the steps in this article.

Lastly, is this happening over WiFi? 3G/4G? Ethernet? Do you notice any difference if you switch the internet connection you're using? You can create, if possible, a hotspot from your phone. Give it a try and let us know how it goes.

Keep us in the loop!

Hello @AlejaR

Thank you for responding, I turned off "show local devices only", but it's still the same.

I am sharing my mobile hotspot to pc

PC version: 1.2.0.1165.gabf054ab

Android version: 8.7.92.521

Hey @Nishant24,

Thank you for keeping in contact and for the info sent.

To continue investigating this case, would you mind checking if you have hardware acceleration enabled? If so, could you turn it off to see if it makes any difference? You can see this option in the settings of your desktop app.

Also, since this could be related to some damaged cache stored from previous versions, we'd recommend performing a clean reinstall of the app by following the steps in this article. This is often an overlooked step, but it's more thorough than a quick one and can be helpful in getting rid of any cache that might be causing trouble.

Let us know how it goes.

Hey Oscar, Thank you for your reply...but the problem is still there.

I can only control from my android only when I play Spotify on web player on PC.

I used to control desktop version with my phone but it suddenly stopped and I can't seem to find any solution anywhere on the internet.

Hey @Nishant24,

Thanks for getting back to us.

As a next step, we'd recommend checking your firewall and antivirus settings and making sure that Spotify is set as an exception there.

Let us know if that helps.

Hey @Nishant24,

Thanks for all the info shared.

At the moment, it's possible to download the app from both the Microsoft Store and our Web page here. So in this case, if you install the desktop app from the web page, try to uninstall that version and try installing the one from the Microsoft one or vice versa.

On another note and just to confirm, do you use a VPN? If yes, try switching it off.

Lastly, did you notice if this started to happen after a specific event such as an OS update? If yes, please send us the details.

Keep us in the loop!

  1. I tried both, Microsoft and from the Spotify website, but it didn't solve the problem
  2. My VPN is off
  3. I don't remember whether it was before or after I updated my windows when I started having problems, but while I was updating my windows it said, "Couldn't complete the update, undoing changes".

Thank you moderators for being patient with me.

Hi there @Nishant24,

Thanks for the info. Does it work when you try to control the phone and other devices via PC? Can the PC be controlled via other devices besides your Android phone?

Keep us posted.
