Can't find device following forced update (which deleted all offline music).

OK, I understand that you had to force an update (and, clearly, lots of people are not happy - in my opinion you should have allowed people to opt out for a period of time), however, this update appears to have also stopped my device from appearing on my PC. So not only have I lost all my music that I had synced on my phone, which included lots of local files, I can't sync them back! 

Help please!

P.S. Have already tried the FAQ suggested steps.
