Can't listen to any songs on my playlist on mobile device. All songs are grayed out

Can't listen to any songs on my playlist on mobile device. All songs are grayed out

Device

Samsung Galaxy 7 Android  (Free)

I made a few playlists from the music I have from my desktop.  Everything plays fine there.  When I use the app on my phone, there's not a single song that'll play from any of the playlists.  All the songs are grayed out.  Am I missing something obvious here?

Hey @Niwan,

welcome to the community!

I know it sounds simple, but it's often overlooked. Could you try restarting your device? If that doesn't help, try a quick clean reinstall of the app. Just follow these steps.

If you're still having trouble, could you let me know the exact version of Spotify and the exact version of the operating system you're running?

I'll see what I can suggest next!

Thanks for the help and the welcome, Billy!

I restarted the phone and then followed the instruction for the quick clean and reinstall (no change with either)

Spotify version - 8.4.64.555 armV7

Android version - 8.0.0

Thanks for the reply!

Sorry if that didn’t do the trick. Next, could you go ahead and follow these steps if you cannot play any tracks here: https://support.spotify.com/using_spotify/troubleshooting/playback-issues/?

Let me know how you get on.

No success yet. One song shows up on the playlists as playable. It's a song I bought through iTunes but every other song I originally added from my collection (from my laptop) is still grayed out on my phone.

Do I need to have those files on my phone to play them? That's not the case, is it?

Thanks again for your help Billy

Were you able to follow these steps:

  • Spotify recommends at least a 3/4G connection, but preferably WiFi.
  • Make sure Spotify isn’t in offline mode.
  • Turn your WiFi off. Wait 30 seconds, then switch it back on.
  • Restart your router.
  • Close any apps you’re not using.
  • Check if your firewall (if you use one) has Spotify set as an exception.
Note: Some shared or public networks (e.g. schools/work/office) restrict access to certain services. You can contact those responsible for managing the network for more information.
  • If possible, try it with a different WiFi network. If it works with another connection, Spotify recommends contacting the service provider of the original network for more information.
  • If you’re using a data connection, check that you have enough data allowance.
Tip: Spotify recommends using WiFi instead of a data connection.

Let me know if that helps!
