My Question or Issue

Google assistant no longer works with my phone's spotify. I checked settings but can't see anything. I even considered that the car view option may effect this, but for some reason, the car view option is no longer visible in my preferences! My wife's and son's phones work fine with google assistant. We're all android.

Please help

Hi @Slinkymn,

Welcome to the Community!

We'd recommend running a clean reinstall of the app, following the exact steps from this Spotify Answer. This will assure that all possibly corrupted app data is cleared and you're running the latest version of the app.

If you're still not seeing the option after that send us some screenshots of how your Setting menu looks like.

We'll be on the lookout for your reply 🙂

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. I tried exactly what you said, but it made
no difference. I still can't see the car mode and Spotify still doesn't
work with Google assistant. I'm not sure if I even need the car mode but
that's the only thing that seems different between the settings on my phone
and my wife's phone. It's the Google assistant I really need for when I'm
driving .

Zip file attached of my settings screenshots!

Hope you can help

Thanks again

Mark

Hi @Slinkymn,

Thanks for the reply.

Can you tell us a bit more about what you used to use the google assistant for in relation to Spotify? This will help us offer more relevant solutions.

Can you also describe how you connect your phone to the car's onboard system - via Bluetooth or cable?

Another thing - what happens if your wife logs in with her account on your device, does it work normally?

We'll be on the lookout for your replies. Thanks.

Hi, yes, the phone connects to the car stereo via bluetooth, and up until
recently, I could search spotify via the stereo's microphone (via Google
assistant) Even taking the car stereo out of the equation, spotify won't
work with Google assistant. It says, playing 'blah blah' via Spotify, but
then it just does nothing else! I checked with my wife and son's android
phones and their Spotify works fine with Google assistant. I don't know if
the 'car mode' in settings has anything to do with it, but theirs is
visible.

If this can't be fixed, do I need to set up a new Spotify account? I hope
not!

Thanks again

Mark

Hey @Slinkymn,

Thanks for getting back to us.

Could you let us know which Spotify version you have installed? Also - does Google Assistant work when used only on your phone, without being connected to the car stereo?

We'd appreciate it if you could log in on your phone with another account , say that of your wife or son, and see if things work as expected there.

We appreciate your time to troubleshoot this and look forward to your reply.

Hi. I don't know what version i'm using but I've just tried what you
suggested. I logged out then back in with my wife's account and Google
assistant works fine with Spotify on her account. The problem must be with
my account!

Hey @Slinkymn,

Thanks for getting back to us.

You can learn how to check your Spotify version using the steps here. Since the Assistant seems to work on the same device with another account, a possible workaround would be to create a new account and see if it works properly there as well. If that's the case you can use the steps here to transfer your music collection.

Keep us posted. We're always one reply away 🙂
