[Chromecast] Can't connect to Google Home

I used to be able to stream music from my android devices to Google home or by using google home to play spotify songs.  A month ago (maybe february or march) it simply stopped working.  when I try and cast from a device, it shows me the devices on the network that I can cast to, but if I select Google Home, the app says "connecting" but I then get the "chord" sound from Google Home indicating that there was a problem.  When I ask Google home to play a certain song, with Spotify selected as teh default player, Home says, "sorry, I can't get information from  your account." I have uninstalled and reinstalled the apps and reconnected it to Google home, all with no success.  Please help or I'll need to delete my spotify account.  Simply don't know why it just stopped working.
