Connect is starting my phone app

My Question or Issue

Today when I turned on my computer version of Spotify in my office it turned on the app on my phone to run simultaneously. And when I turned it off it automatically turned back on a few minutes later. It is not changing the sound output, but it is running on my phone, which drains a lot of battery through the day. I have turned off the wifi on my phone to try and use the feature that only uses connect on the same wifi, but to no avail. How can I prevent the app from turning on when I have no need to use it as a remote?
