My Question or Issue

I can not control the music that's currently playing in spotify through the Android Auto app when spotify is playing music on my phone. Spotify is showing up in Android Auto, but none of the buttons (play/previous/next song) work. I can, however, scroll my playlists and search for music.

Oddly, I can control the music on another device when spotify is currently open and playing a song. Problem has nothing to do with my car, just with the Android Auto app. Restarting phone, clearing cache, changing battery saving options for both apps, and reinstalling both apps did not help. Android version, although older, should be recent enough.

Hey there @LeMAO

Welcome to the Community and thanks for reaching out about this.

Keep in mind that older Android versions can cause the app to malfunction and might not work properly with certain features.

In this case, we'd recommend using Android Auto with a device that has a newer Android version.

Hi Novy,

thanks for the reply. Spotify claims to be working with Android 4.1 or higher, and Android Auto works with Android 6.0 or higher. Therefore, both should be able to work together on anything running Android 6.

What you're doing is basically telling me to just get a new phone. My phone works fine, and I have no intention to throw it away just to be a good consumer.

I would like to ask you to forward my problem to the developers. It can't be the official solution to buy a new phone for something that seems to be a Spotify code issue, regardless of the Android version. Android Auto by itself works just fine.

Thanks & Best
