Decision between battery life and mobile data

Decision between battery life and mobile data

Greetings community,

I use Spotify a lot, as I got a premium membership.

The playlists I listen to, I downloaded on my device, which is a Samsung Galaxy S7 with the newest Android on it.

Now I got a flatrate with 1,5 GB per month and here starts the problem:

Problem A: I use Spotify in online-mode and it consumes a lot of data, despite the fact that I downloaded the playlists. I think, that it gets the covers and some background information. But here lies the problem: it consumes roughly 500-600 MB data per month, which in my opinion is a lot more it should.

Now I thought, that I am smart and use the offline mode, but here comes the next problem:

Problem B: As soon as I put Spotify in offline mode, I can watch the battery go down very rapidly. In fact its so fast, that when I charged my phone at work, drive home and do some sports with Spotify on, the battery is back to like 50% again, as normally in Online-Mode it used to have 75-80% after the same period of time.

Is there anyone which has the same problems? I googled for it, but all I found were some topics from like 2013.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Hi. I have an S7 Edge and haven't noticed increased battery drain in offline mode but I'll test this to see if I can reproduce. Any chance of posting screen captures showing this?

Two screens would be helpful:

  1. settings > battery > battery usage
  2. application manager > spotify

Thanks.

Hi Joe,

thanks for the reply.

I hope that its not a problem, that my screenshots are german.

As some background information: Roughly from 6-7.30 AM I use Spotify, as I take the train. The rest of the chart is while I am at work and dont use Spotify at all.

Sometimes I take a look at my mobile. Sometimes I write back at WhatsApp Web, because I use it on my Windows 7, with a connection to my mobile.

Screenshot 1 shows the battery chart:

The flat part is over night, as I deactivate any mobile Data, despite Bluetooth and put my mobile in "Do not disturb"-mode.

As soon as I activate mobile data or WLAN it goes down rapidly again.

All with Spotify put in Offline-mode

Screenshot 2 is from the application manager:

Screenshot 3 shows the usage percentages from an app I installed, to identify my sudden battery loss:

When I use Spotify in Online-Mode, the battery chart is much more flattened out and the drop is not that harsh.

Appreciate your help. Maybe there is something.

Hi again. German's fine as long as the layout is the same but I did have to put my glasses on:)

The GSAM screen didn't help much but the other two screens were useful. The battery usage screen for spotify shows it used 384maH which is only about 11% of the battery capacity so that doesn't seem at all excessive.

The main battery screen shows that spotify only used 18% of the total used since last charge so android system and other apps used 82% between them.

I'd suggest you power the phone off and back on as that usually fixes issues like this and maybe take a closer look at the other apps listed on the battery screen. But hey, you're getting 24 hours usage on one charge, which isn't too bad.

I use power saving mode on my S7 and get close to 2 days on one charge. You might want to give it a try and see if you can live with the disadvantages such as no always on screen, slower notifications and a few others.
