Distorted interference sound when using touchscreen on Nexus 7

Hi, after listening for a little while on my Nexus 7 (kit kat 4.2.2) every time I use a screen function I get a loud cresendo-ing buzz sound. It does seem to be intermittent as well but when it is happening the sound is deafening. I have tried enabling /disabling the equaliser but doesn't seem to have any lasting effect.

Any thoughts?

Is that over bluetooth? If so, this has been escalated and you might want to keep an eye on this thread. The solution for me was to turn off the audio effects and hit the next track button.

Happens on headphones - which is what I use mostly - but also on device speaker and on bluetooth too btw
