Do I have to delete everything to get extreme quality???

So I was using Spotify free for a short while and have now upgraded to premuium. I had around 50 songs that I went to download so I set extreme quality and downloaded the songs. I have now listened to them and there is no difference in sound quailty. I found a song that I had not downloaded played it in normal quality and then extreme quality there was no difference between them. I am now reading I have to clear the cashe to get it to download and stream at better quality but doing this deletes everything. So will I have to search for every song again and download them to get the better quailty?

Unfortunately, clearing your cache is the best way to go...sorry!
