Do I have to download all songs?

Before the new version of Spotify was released, I could start downloading a playlist and then cancel it, and yet be able to listen to the ones that finished, in offline mode.
Now when I choose to cancel downloading a list, all the green icons disappears. Also if I listen to a song via 3G the song sooner or later too isn't available offline.
Anyone else experiencing this, have a solution or know if one is on the way? Thank you!
