I just noticed that Spotify has ignored the setting "download over cellular" burning through 1,6 GB of data (almost my monthly bundel) in a day.
I'm running:
Spotify 8.4.19.792 armV7
Android 7.0
Samsung Galaxy A5 2017
Samsung Experience 8.1
As this turned up just after my Premium died (cause I switched ISP, I have Premium directly now) it had kicked all downloaded data off my phone (it would have been nice to have some kind of warning for it, but that's another matter), and it started downloading EVERYTHING over cellular until my safety features cut it off. There still are a couple of days left on the month and now I can't use data anymore.
Yur post had me worried so I thought I'd better check. I turned off "Download using cellular" in spotify settings and turned off my S8's wifi then set a small playlist to download. Greyed out download icons appeared againast each track and at the top of the playlist I got a status message saying"Go to settings to download using cellular".
Joe, I'm glad you had that luck.
I have this same problem. Google pixel. Latest update.
It's starting to look like the issue may be specific to devices running android 8. Has anyone posted this in the bug section or contacted spotify direct?
No. I have issue on Android 7.0.
Appears fixed in new release.
Still experiencing this problem, eats lots of data.
Temporary workaround is to not allow backround data for this app.
Version: 8.4.26.770 armV7
Still broken.
Spotify version 8.4.39.673
Android version 8.0.0
