Downloaded albums don't load when offline

Downloaded albums don't load when offline

The other day I was on a plane and was very annoyed to find that I wasn't able to play any of my hundreds of downloaded albums. Whenever I clicked on one of the downloaded albums, it wouldn't even attempt to load but instead showed me a message saying "You're in aeroplane mode. Go online and try again". This is obviously very annoying as the whole point of downloading music is so I have access to it offline. Strangely enough, I could still open and play my downloaded playlists, and even the playlists where not every song was downloaded (although obviously the non-downloaded stuff was greyed out and unplayable). It seems this issue only affects albums for me.

I've played around with it quite a bit since and haven't found any solution. It seems I get this (or a similar) error whenever I don't have an internet connection or when I put the app in offline mode. I've tried closing and reopening the app, I've tried clearing the cache, I've even tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app (very frustrating as this meant I had to spend a long time redownloading everything). The one thing I have discovered is that if I open an album while online, then go offline, I'll still be able to click on that album again for a while, presumably as it's been cached.

I've tried every suggestion I could find in the internet but the issue still persists. This issue is very frustrating for me as I mostly consume music by listening to albums, and I do this very often when I don't have a stable internet connection, meaning the app is nearly unusable for me at the moment.

I am using the latest version of the Spotify app (9.0.10.415) on a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra running Android 14.

Hey there @londonsorcery

Thanks for getting in touch about this here in the Community.

Just to confirm, have you turned the offline mode of the app on before switching the airplane mode on? Also, does this only happen with albums or with songs and podcasts as well?

If not, could you check if the OS of your phone has any pending updates? Also, sending us a short screen recording of what you see on your end would come in handy. You can attach it to your next response by using the Insert Video option in the post editor. You can also upload it to Google Drive and share the link with us (make sure the video has the permissions for anyone to see it).

We'll be waiting for your reply.
