My Question or Issue

I am trying to add some mp3 files on my PC to a playlist and then download the playlist on my phone. This worked just fine 2 months ago, but for whatever reason, I can't download the songs now, and they get an exclamation point icon instead of the download one. I have already searched through the community, I cleared the cache, already did a clean reinstall, the files do not have DRM, and the "recent changes to syncing" answers all over the community were much before I did this exact same process two months ago.

Hi there @ziul123,

Could you confirm that both your phone and your PC are connected to the same Wifi network? Make sure also that Spotify is running on your PC when downloading the playlist on your phone.

If the issue persists, try creating a duplicate of the playlist and download it instead to see if that does the trick.

Keep us posted on this. Cheers!

Yes, my phone and PC are on the same wifi network, and I am running spotify on my PC. I have already erased and remade the playlist a few times and it still doesn't download. Even making a duplicate did not fix the issue.

Hey @ziul123

Thanks for your reply.

Would you mind checking if the same happens if you store your local files directly on your phone?

I tried storing the files directly on my phone, but couldn't find where spotify sources the local files, so they didn't show up. Either way, I would prefer to continue using the previous process to add files to my phone. If I'm already transferring the actual mp3s to my phone I might as well use a better music player than spotify.

Hey @ziul123,

Thanks for replying in this thread and for all the info shared.

Keep in mind there's a new Local Files experience. With this experience, there's no need to sync the files from one device to the other, as the files can be stored on phones. Just to clarify, currently, the Local Files feature lets you use the Spotify app to play any audio files stored on your device (e.g .mp3, .mp4, .m4a). So, with this function, you'll see all the audio files you have on your phone.

If you haven't yet, you'll need to toggle on the Local files feature on your mobile. From Settings> tap Local Files> Switch Show audio files from this device. When toggling it off, you won't see any of them in the app. You'll find your local files under your Library> Local files folder.

If the above doesn't do the trick, would you mind sending us the make/model and OS of the affected device along with the Spotify version you're running there?

Keep us in the loop!

The local files folder did appear when I toggled the option, but the files I had stored on my phone did not appear in the folder. I don't know if this is because I stored the files on my SD card instead of internal storage, but if spotify can't recognize local files from an SD card, this is a deal breaker. My phone is a galaxy A31, running android 11, spotify version 8.8.76.667

Hey @ziul123,

To test if the issue lies in the files themselves, can you please download a free mp3 sample from the Internet or use your phone's voice recorder to generate one? Once you have the file, simply transfer it to the folder and see if it pops up in the Local Files folder on your app.

My Question or Issue

I wanted to make a playlist with local files in it, and I wanted it to be listenable on multiple devices, so I downloaded the exact same files to both devices (later I copied the files from my laptop to my phone, didn't work either).

After that, only a few songs were listenable on both devices, but most of the songs were grey (not playable) on the 2nd device, even though the file types were the same.

can you help me what could be the problem? Thanks in advance (and sorry for my English, I hope it's understandable :))

Hy TGergo, i am also looking for an answer for this issue. My question ist, is it possible to sychronize the local files between differnt devices (PC, Mobil Phone). Means, setup on one device -> than synchronize, example with your NAS!?
