EDIT: I have changed device since andno problems on S6, also seems one of the updates back in the day fixed it for me
Hi There
I've been having problems with Spotify on my Galaxy S4, EQ randomly turns off and quality goes really bad as i always tweak EQ to have best sound for style of music i currently listen to, I have a hunch that it might have something to do with notifications as it usually happens when i get few of those. I've searched through this forum but didn't find any definite answer to this and troubleshooting didn't help either, any clue if this issue is being addressed ?
Thanks
Solved! Go to Solution.
Having the same problem on german GT I9505. Trying out the solution with adapt sound turned off.
Same here on Sony Xperia Z C6603
Same issue with my Samsung Galaxy s4 (Australia). This never happened on LG Nexus phone.
Spotify is so inconsistent and buggy with many things. iPhone/iPad has serious freezing issues which requires deleting and reinstalling the app and then re downloading all of the music again.
No EQ on Desktop application either.
Time to source an alternative service and ditch Spotify altogether.
May I ask where an Equalizer Option is?
Settings -> No
Now Playing Panel -> No
Where can I find it???
Settings -> Audio Effects
that's my main window after clicking on settings, and audio effects option is right there

but as you can see in my pics in the post before I DONT have that option, WHY???
I do believe that option is only available on certain devices, could be wrong though.

I've been trying the Music Equaliser app from the Google Play store.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=br.com.rodrigokolb.musicequalizer&hl=en
It also allows you to save multiple presets which is handy for those of you who, like me, use multiple sets of headphones and systems for listening at different times.
It appears to work most of the time (gets reset back to flat a lot less often than the inbuilt Android EQ that is used by Spotify). It does still seem to reset occasionally and also does not seem to work with externally loaded playlists (from your own music collection that are not on Spotify). Don't ask me why. It seems weird, but it is what it is.
The EQ resetting itself to flat seems to be at least related in some way to a notification or when opening/switching to some other apps when you have Spotify running in the background. I'm wondering if when another app accesses the EQ it resets it.
So the EQ above is not a total solution by any means. I now try to set my overall EQ level as close as possible in overall output to a flat 'no EQ' output level but with sound shaping to suit the particular headphones or system I'm using. It's not great but you can get close. That way at least I lose my EQ curve settings when it resets itself, but at least I don't get a massive db increase in headphone. The massive sound increase I was getting is quite 'hearing destroying' with my sound isolating Shure SE535 in-ear monitors.
Not sure if this is an Android issue or Spotify. I don't play music through any other player on Android, but might start to investigate that option for my external 'not on Spotify' playlists.
I have also been experiencing the same problem. I do not believe it has anything to due with notifications. I play a song from my playlist, it starts normal/loud for a split second and then goes flat. The sound comes out like if I did not have the headphones connected all the way. Or like if it was playing from one speaker. It does this for like 3-10 mins like most have said. It randomly resets and the sound goes back to normal and clear. It will continue to play the songs clear until the playlist ends. But if I decide to skip, or choose another song, it will go back to turning off/flat until 3-10 min period. I have seen this topic being active since may and I cannot believe it has not been fixed. I will try some of the options that members tried to figure out on their on (its spotify's developers who should be fixing this) and see if it works for me. If it does not, I am going to cancel my subscription and go try a different company.
I've been having this problem since I started using Spotify. When I first start Spotify in the morning, works fine, the Equalizer seems to be working. Then as other apps seem to be working in the background, the Equalizer suddnely stops, and my music suddenly blares out. That's what is so annoying, is the fact that the volume seems to jump higher. If I go back to Spotify, navigate all the way to the settings, and just open the Equalizer settings, the Equalizer settings suddenly work. Also when I open the Equalizer, it's still ON. I've noticed when I install an app it seems to always stop the Equalizer. I'm using a Galaxy S4, and my Android version is 4.2.2.
I figured out what is causing the problem and this is when using the music fx equalizer any song you are playing from a playlist that is stored for offline use and you own that song this will cause the equalizer not to work. Once another song you do not own is played the equalizer works again. The only way to get a song you own to work with the equalizer is to go to the custom settings of the equalizer when the song you own is playing and click ok and the equalizer will work until spotify hits another song you own. This problem caused me to delete some songs I own off the phone and then delete the playlist and download it again so the playlist does not use a song I own and then the equalizer will not turn off.
Yes michaeldicter is right! EQ doesn't work with songs I own. Once I've edited a playlist to contain only songs streamed from spotify, the EQ works fine.
Considering the fact that I would still want to listen to songs that I own (but not available for streaming in my region), I would appreciate if this issue is fixed.
EDIT: Oh notification still causes the reset even in my edited playlist. 😞
Having the exact same problem and have been in communication with Spotify back and forth for weeks now on Twitter... No resolution as yet. VERY annoying!
