I have a HTC One X and was looking forward to getting Spotify running on my new phone.
As soon as I open the app it allows me to sign in, displaying the data use message and licence agreement. However after accepting both it crashes and force closes. I have restarted the phone and reinstalled multiple times to no avail.
Is anyone else having similar problems or have a solution?
Solved! Go to Solution.
Is this the only solution? the redesign of your app is nice for ICS but it has some fundermental bugs in it still, a given since its a beta. I guess what i want to know is do you have somewhere that lists the latest builds you are putting out? are they nightly pushes or are you just doing them ad-hoc?
I work in mobile development and testing, so do you have a specific location i can report issues to given this is a beta and not the full product (getsatisfaction is probably not the right place)?

Haha. I like your optimism and given your day-job it's understandable that you might think this, but ... some facts:
- The beta preview app was released in mid-April and has not been updated since
- The last official (Play) Android app release was mid-November 2011 - the only extra feature this bought was to allow login via Facebook (i.e. it was necessary)
- Before November the last official Android app release was April 2011 I believe
- The beta preview release was posted a week or so after numerous tech sites picked up and started running this story, including the fact that Spotify did not support ICS (this timing may have been a coincidence, but ...)
- [iOS gets a release at least once a month it seems - you may feel this is irrelevant, hence the brackets]
- Spotify never officially comments on upcoming features (although a forum mod may let slip once in a while)
- Spotify never officially comments on bugs fixes that are in development (although a forum mod may let slip once in a while)
- Spotify never officially comment on upcoming release dates
Now, given your background and what you know of Spotify - living, developing and making money in an e-commerce world - on a scale of one to ridiculous what would you score this situation?
If you want to report bugs or missing features this board is the only way to do it. See the thread I created here for a start: http://community.spotify.com/t5/Mobile-Android/quot-Official-quot-new-application-beta-release-missi... - yep, a forum member (customer!) created the only consolidated 'official' sticky thread for reporting testing efforts with the beta release.
If you want to push Spotify for a better release policy try this thread: http://community.spotify.com/t5/Spotify-Ideas/Introduction-of-closed-Beta-testing-programme/idi-p/68... - there are many others like it
I appreciate your quick reply, but as an android user i feel pretty hard done by, espcially given i pay as much as any iphone user for access to your premium service.
From what i can gather (and please do correct me if i am wrong) but you are saying there is an iOS release AT LEAST once a month, yet there has not been an official android release since November. This seems to be very slack on spotifys part given ICS has been in the pipe line and had versions available for developers to get there applications up to date. Now i am not saying the applications i have worked on are comparible to spotify in the level of use, but i have over seen the ICS rewrite on 5 apps so far, and all of those where to ready for the ICS launch and major new handsets. Considering you are a much bigger company with a greater wealth of dedicated resources for this purpose, as an android user i feel like spotify is seriously screwing us.
This is a difficult situation for me as i have used your premium service for over 2 years, but given now that it is no longer compatible with my mobile device, and this is the main reason i have it, i dont see how i can continue to pay when there is no information on when or EVEN IF these problems will be rectified.
Again i appreciate you are not personally responsible for this, and getting the pages up for people to give feedback on bugs and new features is a good idea, but at this point it kinda feels like a band aid for a broken leg.
Hi lambsubstitute,
Welcome to the second class world of Spotify for Android
Yeah, i didnt realise they were so iOS slanted. we have had 1 release since november, which was to introduce facebook login (dont even get me started on how much that pisses me off) and iOS gets at LEAST a monthly release!
Well I didn't say it didn't work on my device, but the performance is so terrible that its pretty much unusable. Music playback stutters when the phone is locked, it cains the battery far more than previous versions (and dont try blaiming this on the one x cause i have monitored the applications that are using the battery and spotify is only just below the screen usage), preferences for playback get wiped, i could go on with what i have found so far
Yes i am fully up to date on my firmware and given what i have said above in the prior posts im a little insulted you suggested this :P.
I'm running the preview app on a HTC One X, but apart from the missing features I'm not seeing any of the types of problems that you seem to be experiencing. Strange. Although obviously everyone's mileage will differ depending on the apps you are running concurrently on your One X.
The only bug I've found in the preview app is that it can get stuck on the now playing page that shows the hi-res album art and the cross icon at the top left which should close it down stops responding. But this is easily worked-around by coming out of the app and going back in.
I don't know what to suggest apart from an uninstall, a manuel clean out of Spotify's preferences and cache from the file system and a re-install. Like I said everything is working nicely on my installation.
Hello! I got HTC One X, too, and I got exaclty the same problem. But when I'm at www.spotify.com --> Mobile --> [Scrolling down, till I find "Beauty Parade"] HTC One X isn't there. So I think that Spotify isn't availd to that phone 😞 I hope that this problem should be fixed soon.
The Beta preview release just stops for me... Is something wrong with my phone?
You should be able to find it in the app store now, a lot of the major issues seem to ahve been reolved, but i do have an annoying issue where it seems to stutter when the phone is locked in my pocket. I have not managed to nail down if this is spotify yet thou so im not saying its the app, but my suspicion is it is.
either way try the install from the play store.
So get over it I don't see you making a awesome "FREE" project like Spotify seriously.
