Google Assistant keeps asking me to sign in with the same account, even though I have. What gives?

I activate Google assistant and ask it to play a song on Spotify. It says okay, playing song X by Band on Spotify. Then it asks me to sign into Spotify with the same account as Google Assistant. I sign into Spotify with my email that I use on Google, and then I try again, and the same thing happens over and over and over. Am I doing something wrong? Or this just doesn't work? It seems like it should, and it wants to, but it just doesn't see that the accounts are linked even though it says in the settings that they are. Is there somewhere else I should see them linked, like in the Spotify app and in the Google settings?
