My Question or Issue

Since the most recent update, Google Clock will not connect to a Spotify playlist for an alarm. In fact, it failed to even trigger my alarm at the right time. I've since cleared the cache, data, and storage of Clock app and now Alarm is triggering at right time, but Spotify app still not connecting. Error being thrown is java.lang.NullPointerException.

I've done a clean reinstall of Spotify app and still not working. Even when I preview the playlist within Clock app, the app shows the Now Playing icon but there is no audio.

Same thing here, missed a couple of alarms this week. Switched back to regular alarm sounds until it gets sorted. Pixel 5

Same thing here on Moto G Power (2021), phone will vibrate twice then act like I missed the alarm.

I am having same/similar issue. Moto G Stylus (2020). Made sure my phone and spotify was update. Restarted phone, cleared caches, reinstalled spotify, logging out and back in, changing wifis, etc. After looking around for something for a few days now I seen that the last update for Spotify was the 24th of this month, which would explain the timing must have to do with the update.

Alarm starts and getting 0-1 vibrate before it just says I missed my alarm. Doesn't play anything, just miss alarm.

I love using Spotify for waking up and all my other alarms, so it's unfortunate that I cannot rely on Spotify until whatever caused these issues is fixed.

I have the exact same issue on my Moto e5 play running Android 8. Started happening a couple days ago.

Hi folks,

Thank you for posting on the Community.

The best way to start troubleshooting an issue is by running a clean reinstall of the app, this one is more thorough than a regular reinstall and helps you have an app free of old files. Then make sure the app has enabled all permissions.

If the reinstall doesn't work, please let us know the make, model and OS version of your phones, as well as the Spotify version.

Keep us posted.

I have completed a complete/clean reinstall of Spotify as instructed and the issue persists.

I have a Google Pixel 4XL, running Android 11, Spotify version 8.6.56.867.

Respectfully, I think the most recent update on 8/24 is responsible for the broken connection between Alarm and Spotify apps.

Hi all! Just to update you, this issue has now been reported to the Spotify team. Your detailed troubleshooting info has been much appreciated. Please just be sure to keep your app updated so you won't miss any fixes to this.

It seems to work! Just set an alarm, set Spotify as the tone, and it turned
on at the correct alarm time.

unfortunately im still having this problem. Tried clean reinstall , it works for a few minutes but then return to not working. i have Oneplus 6T, OS - 10.3.12 , app version - 8.6.64.1081

I'm also having the same issue "java.lang.NullPointerException"

Google Pixel 5a

Android 11

Spotify version 8.6.66.1238

I tried the full reinstall, downloading the song files, and pausing VPN when it was trying to connect, but no change.

Actually I found my fix: I had auto updates of apps set to off, but just manually updated my clock app. It is now working

Hey folks,

Thanks for the info 🙂

@Knm Glad to hear that it is now fixed for you.

@nirmid Could you update the app with these steps to see if the issue persists? It's also important to make sure that your alarm clock app is also up-to-date.

Hi,

redmi note 8 pro

Android 10

Spotify 8.6.68.1225

Clock 6.4.1

I had this problem. It is solved by Android settings.

Go to settings>apps>manage apps>Spotify.

Under permissions there is autostart and enable triggered start.

IMG_20211009_020617.jpg

I also enabled allow apps to start automatically for clock app.

Now, it's working flawless.
