Google Now doesn't play Spotify music

Hey, so this is the problem. I know I'm suppose do be able to say "okay Google, play [song] by [artist] on Spotify" and it would automatically start playing the song. However, in these past few weeks, I am unable to do so.
I have Samsung galaxy s7, unrooted, and when I say for example "okay Google, play 3005 by Childish Gambino on spotify", Google would say something like "playing music" then proceed to open Spotify. However, it ends there. It doesn't play the song, it doesn't search for the name, nothing. Please help.

Same issue here with android 7.1.1 (Nexus 6P) and Spotify 7.2.0.1250. For me vocal commands not work at all. For example i activate google now with the physical button on my headphones and say "Play this song/artist" google now replies "Ok, i'm playing", but the spotify app doesn't play any music...until i unlock the device.

Well it was working for me for a few months but now it's not working again. Just opens Spotify but doesn't play the artist.

+1 to angelrodriquez, same exact issue.  It just take me to the "top list", it doesn't actually play any music.  Even doing something like "Okay Google, Play Creature Comfort by Arcade Fire in Spotify", it will take me to the top list, it will not play the track.

I use this with my motorcycle so I can do hands-free voice commands while I ride.  This releasing software updates that make "breaking changes" is annoying.  Please fix this Spotify... most of us have contacted both you and Google about this issue... for months upon months.

On a Nexus 5x and yeah, no music plays, just opens a list.

Saying the same command auto plays for Youtube.

Annoying as **bleep**.

For me it shows exactly what I said and it shows "play song - title spotify" but doesnt play it.

I'm having the same issue on a Pixel XL with the latest patch for Android 8.0.

I'm having the same issue on my Pixel 2. It shows me the name of the ong and artist after I say it but then after a few seconds, it just takes me to the select default music provider page.

Go in to settings. Set your default music player. Should sort it

I had already done that and in when it would open the default provider
page, I could see Spotify linked and selected. Restarting the phone has
fixed the issue though so yay!

spotify is absent in default player menu

ok google, just opens browser, and not controlling spotify app

I'm having the same issue on OnePlus 3T. It plays playlists and artists. But if I choose a specific song. It will say 'Okay, playing "Blabla" on spotify --> Open Spotify. and that's it. Tried clearing the cache and data for Spotify but it doesn't fix it for me.
