How do I stop Spotify from automatically playing when connected to bluetoot

This thread deals with the issue you've just described.

A couple of users in there figured out quick fixes to the issue and perhaps you can try them out.

• Go to your phone settings> Apps> Spotify. Once there go to Battery and disable Allow Background Activity. This should stop the app from automatically playing music.
• While the Bluetooth device is connected: go to Phone settings> Sound settings> Earphone mode> Disable the 'Auto Play' function.
