How do I stop Spotify playing automatically as soon as my phone connects to a Bluetooth device?

My Question or Issue

As soon as I get into my car and turn the engine on, my phone finds the stereo, opens Spotify and plays whatever I was last listening to. I need Bluetooth to connect with other devices, so I can't just switch that off.  I can't find any setting that causes Spotify to do this.

Thanks for coming to the Spotify Community. Can you let me know if you're connecting to your car using Android Auto? If so, there should be an option in its settings called "Automatically start media". If you're not using Android Auto, I'd recommend taking a look at the top answer in this thread or the next steps to take.
