How to fix Spotify app for Android when it keeps stopping songs during play

Every time I play a song using the Spotify Android app, it stops at different times for every song? I have a new phone with a new app version and cleared all my cache. Mostly happens with any Bluetooth connection.

I also have this issue - reinstalled spotify, cleared cache, happens on wifi and 5G...

 

Mine only seems to have started since upgrading to android 14 from 13 which I'm guessing OP is also on.

 

Adaptive battery is turned off so this shouldn't be causing the issue. Seems to fix itself when I re-open the spotify app but sometimes needs force closing and opening again.

  • Is this on all devices or only on specific one(s)?
  • Did it only happen after a specific Spotify or OS update or did it happen before also?
  • The makes and models of the affected devices.
  • Screen recording of the behaviour. If the files are too large to attach here in the Community, you can send them to us via Google Drive or as unlisted YouTube videos.

With this information, we’d be happy to investigate.

Hi Joan, thanks for coming back to us - see answers below:

  • Is this on all devices or only on specific one(s)?
    • Only on Google Pixel, not replicated with friends android phones (Samsung S22) and iOS (iphone 13 pro) or PC.
    •  
  • Did it only happen after a specific Spotify or OS update or did it happen before also?
    • Immediately after updating to Android 14
  • The makes and models of the affected devices.
    • Google Pixel 7 Pro
  • Screen recording of the behaviour. If the files are too large to attach here in the Community, you can send them to us via Google Drive or as unlisted YouTube videos.
    • Please send an address I can send a google drive file to as it's too large to upload here. For context of the video as you'll see, the timer keeps counting up until I hit PAUSE, at which point it realises that it's not been playing for 10 mins and rubber-bands back to the 30ish minute mark.

Could you please restart your device and test again?

 

We'd also suggest performing a clean reinstall on your device as it should help you solve this. You've mentioned that you've already reinstalled the app, however, we usually recommend doing that with the steps in this article. This'll make sure you have the latest version of the app and that any corrupted files from previous installations files are removed.

 

If you're still experiencing this - let us know. We'll do our best to help you out, however, it will be difficult to find a solution remotely without a quick video of the issue, that's why we've asked for it as this could help us get a better understanding. If you have one prepared and if the video is too big - you can upload it to Google Drive and share the link with us (make sure the video has the permissions for anyone to see it).
