Is it possible to change default speaker on android app

Is it possible to change default speaker on android app

Hi All,

I use the spotify android app on my samsung phone to control my music.  No problems listening to music on my living room speakers once I first manually choose them in the app but if I use a voice command to change a song ,the app reverts to playing the song through my phone speakers.

It'd be super convenient if I could change the default speaker in the app, could anyone tell me if this is possible please.

Thanks

Hey @SpottedPotato1 ,

Thanks for posting in the Community.

It is currently not possible to change the default speakers the app start the playback on. The app will always start the playback on the device it has last played on (through Connect), but if you throw voice commands in the mix the results may vary and the playback may very well always revert to the phone.

Just to be on the safe side, what are you controlling with your voice commands? The phone or the speakers?

Keep us posted,

Cheers!

Thanks Dian,

I have a samsung phone with google assistant which can control the spotify app. I have a set of speakers linked to my phone through a bluesound node.  When I open spotify, I have to manually choose the bluesound as the playback device and the song will play through the speakers,  and any further song I choose on the phone will automatically play through the speakers for the duration of that listening session.

But if at any stage I ask google assistant to play a tune it will always revert to playing through the phone speakers.

It's not the end of the world but if you're familiar with a work around, I'd love to hear it,

If not, could you mention it to the development team, it feels like being able to set default playback device should be standard and and it would ease the integration of spotify into a myriad of systems

Thanks

Hi there @SpottedPotato1,

Thanks for the reply.

As Dian has said above, it's not possible to change the speaker the app would default to, especially with a set up like the one you're describing, which includes a Bluesound node. I did some digging around, but couldn't find a workaround that would work with this scenario.

In general, the Spotify app is not very flexible when it comes to third party devices or virtual assistants accessing devices through Spotify Connect and controlling playback. Nevertheless, I've passed on your feedback on this functionality to the right folks at Spotify, as real user feedback is always welcome in order to make the app more user friendly 🙂

Cheers.
