Issues with connect and google cast and Doze

Issues with connect and google cast and Doze

When you connect to any casting device (google home, mini, etc) and you set the phone down for a couple of minutes, the casting connection breaks causing the cast device to disappear from the connect list and lose control of playback from the phone. To replicate: Play a playlist and cast it to a cast device. Press the phone's power button to turn the screen off and place the phone down. Pick up the device after about 20 minutes and try to control playback. Then try to re-connect to the cast device.

 

I believe this is caused by android's doze feature which shuts down background application processes when a phone is set down after a set period of time. I've enabled "background activity " from the battery settings, but still nothing.
