No microphone symbol is search bar either

Happens on all my android phones.  No way to dictate anymore.  Can anyone help?

Hi. Some questions for you.

  1. Your device?
  2. Android version?
  3. Spotify version?
  4. Which keyboards have you tried?

Nexus 6 running most recently updated software, android 7.0

spotify 7.4.0.1799, most recent reinstalled from google play

Tried swiftkey and google keyboard

I think it is a bug in the most recently updated version of spotify, earlier versions had the microphone icon in keyboard.  Unfortunately all my apps automatically update to the most current version of software.

I seem to be missing the mic in all search boxes on my S7 so I'm wondering if it's an issue with Google voice typing which the keyboards use. Is it the same for you?

I have the same problem. Using a Nexus 5 phone with Android 6.0.1 and the same version of Spotify as above.

Fix this. No microphone causes unsafe driving. I can't help myself from typing while.....**bleep**.....

No my other applications are unaffected.  Keyboards have microphone icon

I suggest you use the online contact form and someone at Spotify can help get this sorted. If you get an automated response directing you back to the community or to the help pages, please reply to it by email and you will hear back from one of the team shortly.

Thanks Joe. I did contact Spotify support. They sent me a temporary user ID and password and had me verify that the problem occurs with that temporary user ID, same as it does with my real Spotify user ID. After that they washed their hands of the problem blaming it on the device (my Nexus 5 phone). They might be right, but I don't have this problem on any other app . Looks like I'm SOL

It's missing on my S7 too so it isn't device specific. Sadly. I doubt that enough people use the mic to search in spotify so posting in the bugs section is unlikely to gain much momentum. However, if you want to post it as a new bug and pop a link here, I'll happily add my details in support.

Otherwise, keep writing to customer service and don't let them wash their hands of this. Link them to this thread and point out that this has been reported on N5, N6, S7 and other unspecified phones. FFS why can't one of them just pull out an android phone and try it?

Missing on my OnePlus 3T running Android 7.0 as well. Dumb.

Just spoke to customer service about this. They said:

"It looks like you're seeing one of a few changes we've made to Spotify recently, which may or may not be permanent.

Your feedback - which we'll pass on to the relevant people here - is important because, overall, we try out these changes as part of our ongoing dedication to make Spotify even better."

So they actually VOLUNTARILY GOT RID of voice input. It's 2017, and their app doesn't have voice input. ??????? This will make me consider dropping the service and finding another.

It's that constant battle between the design, marketing and tech teams 😞 Let's hope they get it right eventually. Thanks for the update.

Interesting. When I talked to them they blamed it on my Nexus 5 device. I recently discovered a workaround. On my Android Nexus 5 I can use the microphone in a regular Google search window to enter these words: " search for XXX (e.g. Bob Dylan) on Spotify". This triggers the phone to enter the XXX search term into the Spotify search window and if the search is
successful, takes me to the Spotify search result.

Thanks for the workaround. The voice input is missing on my S6 edge aswell. Makes controlling Spotify while driving a whole lot more dangerous!

Will Spotify fix the problem that is the question because I rely on it because I'm legally blind??

That is a very very good argument!

Nope, I have the mic in other apps
