Licenced LocalFiles non playing

Licenced LocalFiles non playing

I have a Spotify subscription but not all songs I like to listen to are available on Spotify. So far no problem. So I go ahead and bought an album I like to listen to but not available on Spotify as a CD. I copied it on my phone enabled local files. Added it to my playlist and boom 1 click and the LOCAL song is grayed out and I get a message "This song isn't available on your device". I literally tried to play it from the local files playlist. I tested some audio recordings of mine and they worked I tested some other CD Licensed content I owned and the same problem occurred. It seems like the license check from Spotify titles is applied on local files. Which is pretty annoying since I can't play them even though I own them.

Hi @RedCrafterLP!

Could you let us know the file extensions of the local tracks you're trying to play? Are you able to play them on another device, such as your PC?

It's also worth checking out this article about local files if you haven't already, as it includes some useful information on what to do if a file from an official source isn't playing.

Keep us posted on this. Cheers!

My files are mp3 and directly sourced from a CD. I copied from the cd to pc then pc to phone. The only files not playing are those Spotify knows. This is confirmed by your linked article. This is especially frustrating since I tried to replaced songs removed from Spotify with my owned versions. Spotify should not check audio files when it acts as an audio player only. Especially if it only detects false positives and not actual things like YouTube downloads. I'm thinking of switching from Spotify to a different service since my playlists shrink instead of grow.

Hey there @RedCrafterLP

Thanks for getting back to us.

We understand where you're coming from, however, keep in mind that even though the Spotify app works as an audio player for local files, those files must meet the requirements so they can be played in the app, and it may not be the case with the files you're trying to upload, as it depends on the source and other factors.

Would you mind checking if the OS of your device is up to date?

Also, could you let us know if the local files are playing on your PC?

Keep us posted.
