My Question or Issue

Hey there,

So my Spotify app will not load my liked songs playlist. It will will attempt to load it but gives an error message claiming something went wrong. Every time I try again the same error message comes back.

Further, I cannot manually select single songs/tracks on playlists. Every time I do, it constantly attempts to load the song with no success. Afterward, I cannot even play songs through the shuffle option. When I can play a song through the shuffle option on a playlist, the minimized player constantly flashes. Also, my phone no longer has the heart for liking songs. It has the plus sign and check mark. Anytime I try to "like a song" like normal, nothing happens and only says it was added to my liked playlist. However, checking the web player, no song was ever added. Please help. Thanks.

Hi there @manplan,

Thanks for reaching out. Could you please provide us the following:

  • Is this on all devices or only on specific one(s)?
  • When did this start happening?
  • Are the new liked songs not synced between all devices or is it just from the aforementioned phone that they aren't synced?
  • Screenshots or a video of the behaviour

With this information, we’d be happy to investigate.

Keep us posted.

Hey There @joan,

  • This occurs only on my android device. My apps and webplayers outside of my android device work just fine.
  • This started happening around the end of November and beginning of December.
  • Any liked songs on my other devices do not (presumably) sync to my android device. I can't really tell because I can't open up my liked songs playlist on my android.
  • Sorry, my phone can't take screen videos and screencaps won't really prove anything except the aforementioned error messages.

It seems like my spotify app on my android thinks its playing as a desktop app and it seems stuck in that layout. I think it's because it synced up with a desktop app and couldn't leave that mode. Even after uninstalling and clearing the cache.

Hey @manplan,

Thanks for the reply!

The layout of the Android app should be completely different than the desktop one.
It seems to me that something is fundamentally wrong here..

Could you please follow these exact steps for a complete clean reinstall of the app?
If the issue persists after this, we'd appreciate a screenshot of how your app looks like, as it should technically never resemble the desktop app layout at all.
And, in addition to that - let us know how much free space your device has. If you're using an SD card - please check that for it as well.

Much appreciated! We'll be on the lookout 🙂

Hey @vasil

Thanks for the suggestion. I did everything on the list. Clearing cache and
data. However, none of that worked for me either. My sd and internal space
both have 1/3 space left over. It's quite a bit and I am positive spotify
is not taking up 15 gbs. Lol.

Hey @manplan,

Thanks for your reply and for the info shared.

In this case, would you mind opening a different account on your device to see if you notice any changes in this behavior? It'd be awesome if you could check. You can ask for the account of a relative or a friend to open it on your mobile device and check.

On another note, we understand you can't take video recordings from your device screen. Would you mind sending us some screenshots, if possible, of the behavior you mentioned before? It'd be really helpful for us to visualize the desktop resemblance you mentioned before. You can take photos of it with a different device.

Lastly, since you mentioned there's an SD card installed on your mobile device, would you mind removing it and reinstalling the app in the internal memory of your device? Make sure to use the app without inserting the SD card again. It seems there's a more recent version of Spotify available on the Play Store. The reinstallation will help you update the app as well.

Let us know how it goes. Keep us in the loop!
