Local Files and Android

Local Files and Android

Hi,

Just trying to clarify some things, hopefully more knowledgable members can help me out here. I have some songs that aren't on the spotify library (covers/remixes/foregin languages/etc.) and I copied them onto my phone storage (android). I was able to then add and play them in the spotify phone app using the settings and navigating to the folder within my phone. All was fine and good.

But I recently updated spotify, and had all the local (were still on my phone storage) songs greyed out - to which I found out (from trawling through other posts) I would have to copy the files to my PC and add the songs as local files to my spotify desktop application, and download/sync them *through* my PC, and I could no longer find the option in the spotify phone app to add local files. So the way I'm seeing it  is that I cannot add local files using only my phone like it was on previous versions of spotify, is this correct or am I missing something?

Thanks in advance! 🙂

I think they were trying out the ability to add local files on android for selected users. This was never rolled out to all users and I guess the trial has finished. So yes, you can only add local files to spotify using the desktop client, as described here. You will need to copy them to your PC first.
