Just moved from an Iphone to a droid turbo and I love it. The only issue I have is that I don't have access to lockscreen controls. I have lockscreen widgets enabled but spotify doesn't show up as an option. I know this is supported for other android phones, not sure why it's not working for me.

Are you completely stock or do you have a third-party lock screen app installed?
Also some headset controls such as JAYS interferes with it... do you have any such apps installed?
Completely stock lock screen and no apps like that
Do you have the google search widget on your homescreen? Can you try removing it, uninstalling Spotify, Check the com.spotify.mobile folder is removed from Android/Data then reboot your phone and re-install Spotify.
I don't have the google search widget on my lockscreen or my homescreen and I already did a clean install.
This is nearly always caused by a conflicting app. So you have no headphone control apps... how about other media Widget apps? Cache or task cleaners and battery savers are also known to cause issues by blocking the process which enables the control widget.
Do you have anything like this installed? If so, can you disable it or add an exception.
I do (podcast addict) but I installed that after I had already been experiencing this. Spotify was probably the first or second app I installed on this phone and I haven't had lockscreen controls from day 1
