Massive data usage by Spotify

I have been a premium member for several years. Almost all my playlists are downloaded over wifi because we have poor data coverage. I normally see Spotify use 1 to 2 gigs per month. Last week it used over 25 gigabytes in 4 days, costing me $45 from Verizon for exceeding my data plan. All my popular lists are still marked as downloaded. No settings have been changed in years. I'm furious. I'm willing to try some things and give it one more chance and then I'm switching to Amazon. 

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Im in the same boat. Funny how spotify answers the easy questions but I noticed they don't answer the ones where data has been used and has cost the user excess data fees. I made sure my "Download using cellular" was off but still used massive amounts of data to download..
