Music pausing when screen is off

My Question or Issue

There are times that when my phone screen is off, the music will pause. Turning the screen back on resumes the song, but it will pause again as soon as the screen fades to black.

I've tried force stopping the app.

Problem comes back.

I've tried clearing the app's cache.

Problem comes back.

I've tried signing out of my account. 

Problem comes back.

I've tried reinstalling the application on my phone.

Problem comes back.

Spotify and my device are both set to auto update, so an outdated version isn't the problem.

Your attention this issue would be appreciated.

I am having the same issue on my Galaxy S9. It is starting to get extremely annoying.

I am now trying this: 

Optimize battery usage -> Select "All apps" -> Scroll down to Spotify. If Spotify is selected (is blue), unmark it.

Edit: This seem to have solved the issue on my phone.
