No option for SD card storage, even though SD card is mounted?

Solved!

No option for SD card storage, even though SD card is mounted?

My phones storage says there is a SD card in the device, I've tried putting the sd card in and out, deleting the app and restarting the device, and I have over 10gb of storage left on the SD card. Any advice? Thanks in advance.

Hey @samwarden123-gb! As I understand, you can't move music to your SD card? I'll prompt a few options for you!

- Backup your SD card and then try to format it in the phone before installing Spotify. If you've taken the SD from a previous device there may be old conflicting files which can create issues and cause the Spotify app to Force Close.

- At the bottom of the settings screen in the Spotify app there should be an option 'Storage'. Open this and select the storage location you want your cache, if changing location the app will transfer existing cached data to the new storage. Note that if your device does not have an SD Card or the SD is unreadable the 'Storage' option will not be visible in the settings screen.

- If you have upgraded your device to Android 6.X Marshmallow or greater then make sure your SD Card is not formatted as 'Internal' memory. Unfortunately formatting an SD Card to be used as Internal memory called 'Adoptable Storage' creates issues with the Spotify cache as well as possibly causing an SD card to fail quicker. If you have done this then you will need to re-format the SD card. More details about Android Adoptable Storage can be found here. Also check the permissions for the app and ensure the Spotify app has all the required permissions. Please see the official Android guide to updating permissions on Marshmallow here.

Please let me know if it works, if it doesn't please let me know which device, OS and Spotify Version you are using! Thanks!

Thanks for the reply! I have formatted the SD card, removed it from the device and put it back in, deleted the cache and reinstalled the app. Still no sign of the 'storage' option in the settings menu, even though my device says there is one there with 10gb remaining.
You asked for my software info; - 8.4.0.539 armV7
- android 6.0.1 (marshmallow)
Hope this helps!

Quick question, what device are you using? Also, have you tried checking the Permissions?

Yes, I have enabled all of the available options. I use a Samsung J5. Do you think it's an external problem? When I initially got the app i had the SD card storage option and after a month long break I saw that it wasn't there

Umm I'm not sure yet, I'll have to ask you to be patient! I'm doing some research and talking to other teammates about it. I'll post back as soon as I have something!

No problem

Back again but with just a quick question to verify and continue assisting you: Have you tried another SD card?

No, I haven't, do you think i should? I am willing to it if you think theres a chance of it working. Thanks for all the effort by the way, it is much appreciated!

Most of my teammates insist on giving a try to another SD card... I can't confirm it will work but it's worth a shot so I can know if it's a mistake on Spotify app or your SD!

Ok, I'll post back in a day or so to tell you the results. Thanks for all the help!

I found this post:

https://community.spotify.com/t5/Android/How-to-store-offline-music-on-the-external-SD-card-on-andri...

"Just make sure you have an Android/data/com.spotify.music folder on your external SD card. Once this folder exists, a new option Storage is available on Spotify Settings. There you can swith to SD Card. Worked for me on Adroid 5.0."

Someone else said to just go to that location and create a folder titled that.

I also found another post:

https://community.spotify.com/t5/Android/How-to-store-offline-music-on-the-external-SD-card-on-andri...

They said:

1. delete downloaded songs

2. go to device storage/android/data -> move com.spotify.music to SD memory card /android/data (It might already be there i'd just overwrite it, donno if it matter or not)

3. download songs

Hopefully that helps! I had the same problem and I can't remember what I did, but I think I just did the second one which is to move the folder to the SD card.
