Output switches to phone when I get back to my car

My Question or Issue

This problem started after I updated to Android 14. I have the latest version of the Spotify app 8.8.80.599. My car is a 2016 Toyota Prius.

When I start out in my car in the morning, I sometimes but not always need to run the Spotify app (once I'm connected to the car via Bluetooth) to get things started. Everything works fine with the audio coming through the car's audio. Then I make a stop, like Post Office, market, etc. and get back in the car. I wait for the car's Bluetooth to connect to my phone. Then the music starts playing, but through my phone's speaker instead of the car. So I go to the swipe-down widget and see that it's playing through "This phone" (the other options are "David's hearing aids" and "Toyota Prius"). I select "Toyota Prius", but that just hangs. But I can use "Done" to escape the hang. Any attempt to tell it to use the car just hangs. However, I discovered that if I select "David's hearing aids", that works instantly (music playing via my phone's Bluetooth connection to the hearing aids), and from there, I can select "Toyota Prius" and it will usually finally switch to playing through the car. Usually, but not always. The one cure that always works is to do a force stop of the Spotify app. When I restart the app, the music goes immediately to the car's audio and everything is fine until I make another stop.

Today I tried going out without the hearing aids that are Bluetooth-connected to my phone. In this case, the problem did not occur: Everything started fine as always, with Spotify going to the car's audio system. I made one stop. When I got back into  the car and started up again, this time the music played through the car right away. So the problem must have something to do with the phone being Bluetooth-connected to two  different potential audio receivers (hearing aids and car audio). Although the Spotify swipe-down widget properly shows both of them, it apparently becomes confused.

Two updates.
(1) The behavior has changed. Now, when I get back in the car, the music starts playing correctly, using the Car's Bluetooth audio right away. But then, 20 seconds or so later, after I've already started driving, the audio switches spontaneously to my hearing aids. So I pull over, take out my phone, and go to the swipe-down widget. Sure enough, it says "David's hearing aids". But now, if I select "Toyota Prius" it successfully switches to the car's audio and this time it sticks. I believe this change occurred after the November 2023 Android 14 update.
(2): None of these issues occur with the Pandora app. So it's not just an Android problem.
