Playback Constantly Mutes

Playback Constantly Mutes

Hi all,

I am having a problem with playback on my Android device. It started late last week but corrected itself pretty quickly so I thought nothing of it, but today it's back and makes my phone completely unusable for listening to my music.

I have tried 3 pairs of heaphones (1 pair of noise cancelling and two regular ear buds) and external speakers. They all do the same thing. The system speaker and blue tooth connections (as used in my car) work fine. It's only if I'm using the headphone jack.

I have rebooted my phone several times, killed the Spotify app and tried clearing any and all cache/memory/whatever. I don't think there have been any updates to Spotify since it was last working reliably. The only thing I have not tried yet is a different phone, but that's not really an option here. Besides, I think it's a software bug because playback in any other app is fine.

Anyway, onto that template thingy:

Description

Basically what happens is I plug in my headphones, start Spotify and start a track (normally just shuffle). The music appears to be playing but there is no sound. If I go back to my home screen, the sound starts. If I turn the screen off, pull down my notification drawer, or basically interact with the phone in any way, the sound mutes (but appears to still be playing). The sound even mutes if I go back into spotify. The only time I get playback is if I'm on the home screen and am doing nothing with the phone. This doesn't work for very long because as soon as the screen turns off, Spotify stops. WiFi is off, all the songs I am trying to listen to have been downloaded to my device.

What are the steps you took to get to the error/issue?

Open Spotify on Android.

Play anything with headphones plugged in.

Try an use the phone or turn the screen off.

What I expected to happen

Music audibly plays regardless of whether or not my screen is on or whatever else I'm doing with my phone.
