Push notifications

Push notifications

I have a 0 tolerance policy for push notifications on my android apps. This morning I got up and found that I was pushed a notification to give spotify as a gift. I checked my preferences and as I remembered I did, all push notifications were off. So why the hell am I getting these notifications?

The only reason that I switched to Spotify from Google music is because Spotify plays nicer with Amazon FireTV. Thanks to Kodi that problem is solved and Google music works perfecly now with a simple Kodi plugin. I am cancelling my Spotify subscription and going back to Google Music. I will not pay $10/month for developers who force their will on me. As far as I'm concerned that is simply reinforcing bad behavior, something I will never tolerate.

Good bye!

This is unacceptable for a premium service that costs more than others. I am actively seeking a replacement service as well.

Wait, people!
There's an easy fix to this on Android!

First go into Settings, then click on Apps. This should display a list of your apps alphabetically. Click on Spotify. Now, just uncheck the "Show Notifications" checkbox. 🙂
Just your average Android nerd that sucks at coding.

I'm well aware of that feature but it doesn't address a couple of issues.

1)  Spotify's attitude of we know better than you and are forcing you to pay us $10/month and you'll use the production the way we wish and not respect how we the users... the people paying for this service wish to use it

2) I find the notifications useful when I'm playing music. Gives the song title, etc. but also has some controls (pause, play, skip, etc) on the pull down. That will go away if you disable notifications.

I know about the notification options in Android, but like others here I object to the idea that Spotify ignoring my request to not send me marketing material is my problem to fix.

@marc & AO: Exactly.
