Hey folks,

Thanks for the details!

This should now be fixed for everyone. Just make sure you're running the newest version

Cheers!

Hey there @ryocrybabyy

Thanks for reaching out about this here in the Community.

Could you double-check if you're logged into your account? If so, could you try playing a playlist, podcast or album to see if the widget updates?

If it doesn't, would you mind trying to log out and then log back in to your account twice in a row? This will trigger a sync between your account and device.

Let us know how it goes.

I have exactly the same error, it was driving me crazy. I tested an APK of Spotify version 8.9.32.624, and the error didn't occur. Apparently it's a bug in the latest version of the app. I had already contacted customer service about this, and they only advised me to log in again, reinstall the app, restart the phone... The usual. Apart from the fact that my downloads are gone, it didn't help. I have a Google Pixel 7 Android 14.

Hi @hzrgle

Thanks for reaching out.

You mentioned trying to reinstall the app as per Supports request. But before moving forward we would ask you to check and see if the same thing happens from another device? You can ask a friend or family member to try on their phone.

Please let us know the Operating System you are running on your phone and the version of Spotify you have, with them we will be able to investigate further.

We'll be on the lookout for your feedback.

Hello, thank you very much for the answer. In my opinion, the problem is obvious: The APK version 8.9.32.624 worked wonderfully; overnight the app updated itself to 8.9.38.494 and: The suggestions are again completely random. I have a Google Pixel 7 with Android 14. According to the PlayStore, the Spotify app updated itself about a week ago, which coincides with the occurrence of the error. It is a bug in the latest app version, anything else doesn't seem logical to me.

Hi there folks,

Thanks for the replies. So that we can investigate this issue further, we'll need some more info on the exact issue. Could you please provide us the following, if you haven't already :

  • Is this on all devices or only on specific one(s)?
  • When did this start happening?
  • The exact makes, models and OS/Firmware versions of all your affected devices
  • The exact Spotify Versions you use.
  • Screenshots of the behaviour

With this information, weโ€™ll look into this further.

Keep us posted.

Hello, thanks for the answer.

As I said: After installing version 8.9.38.494, the suggestions on the homepage became random. The update was installed about a week ago. I only have one device, so I don't know if it's the same on other devices. My Pixel 7 runs on Android 14 (5.10.189-android13-4-00012-g1217bb583cc5-ab11174560
#1 Mon Dec 4 18:59:42 UTC 2023). I tested an APK of Spotify version 8.9.32.624, and the error didn't occur. Apparently it's a bug in the latest version of the app. Overnight the app updated itself to 8.9.38.494 and: The suggestions are again completely random. Screenshots attached.

I have now explained several times what the error is and in which version the error last no longer occurred. I don't think it's my responsibility as a customer to pursue this any further. I've done everything I can to help - the solution is obvious!

Hi @hzrgle,

Thanks for the reply. We've already noted all your info and it will prove very useful. We'll be looking into the possible cause of the issue and to that end, we'll need the aforementioned information from as many users as possible. We'll be keeping an eye on this thread and will post any updates as soon as we have them.

In the meantime, let us know if you find anything else or if there's anything else we can do for you.

My Question or Issue

Spotify widget randomly changes from how it should look (my recently played things) to show albums or playlists I have never listened to (a couple in this screenshot I have listened to at some point but not recently and the others I have never listened to). This can happen when listening to a song or podcast where the currently playing part looks normal but the rest have random playlists or albums or when I'm not where everything is wrong.

My listening history looks like it should so not an issue with my account (though changed password and logged out everywhere just in case)

Tried clearing cache, restarting my phone, logging out and back in again but issue persists.

Just to add the specific information:

Is this on all devices or only on specific one(s)?

I only have one android device so can't check that

When did this start happening?

Sometime last week or the week before

The exact makes, models and OS/Firmware versions of all your affected devices

Google Pixel 8 Pro, Android 14

The exact Spotify Versions you use.

8.9.40.509

Screenshots of the behaviour:

First one is the random albums, second is how it looks when playing a song (so song at the top of the widget with media controls is correct, the bottom suggestions are wrong)

Hello pun10tial,

Very interesting that we are even suggested the same albums (The tortured Poet...). Have you already tried an older version of Spotify? Try installing version v8.9.36.616, that worked for me. It's best to disable automatic updates in the PlayStore until Spotify finally provides a fix.

Best regards.

Hello,

Yeah I reckon it's showing popular albums (or playlists, I had the same as ryocrybabyy's screenshot at one point) instead of our recent listens for some reason which would explain why these albums specifically and how we're getting the same ones.

I haven't tried an older version of Spotify, I'm just going to keep automatic updates enabled because any update could indirectly fix the issue and to make sure I get other security and bug fixes, and I'm just not going to use the widget until it's fixed. Hopefully it gets fixed soon.

It's not an idea, I need support and there's no way to ask for help on this app. The widget has started displaying artists that I never listen to and album covers for trending artists instead of my most recently played music.

My Question or Issue

In android widget , it no longer  reflects recently played. I did uninstall and reinstall spotify and this did resolve it temorarlly. Until it came right back with latest releases instead of rececently played.

I'm experiencing the same exact issue. When I'm not listening to any music/when offline etc, the widget shows me popular albums of local artists in my country who I've never listened on Spotify (or any streaming platform). Are these ads or something? It's kind of annoying tbh and it's been happening for a while now

I have the same problem and it is super frustrating!! I loved the widget when it worked but there is literally no point to the widget if it doesn't show the playlist I want so I can quick access it. Please please fix this problem soon!!

Hi folks!

Could you check if removing the widget and adding it back does the trick? If the issue persists, try rebooting your phone - this should force a resync that may help here.

I'd also recommend making sure Spotify is allowed to run in the background and is excluded from all other battery- or performance-optimizing software.

Hope this helps. Let us know how it goes.

Hi, I've tried these things and uninstalling and reinstalling the app but it keeps going back after some time.

Same thing happening to me. From time to time when I unlock my phone it displays random albums on the widget. I've found out that resizing that widget makes it update/synchronize and it then does display correctly my personalized suggestions. But it's only a temporary fix.

  • Didn't happen on my previous one (Wiko View4 Lite)
  • A few weeks ago, shortly after I changed my smartphone
