Redesign the Android app to fit the Material Design Guidelines

Redesign the Android app to fit the Material Design Guidelines

I'm new to Spotify.  It seems to me that the app on Android (7.0) is missing icons.

My bottom row only has (Your Playlists, Home, Search).  I think it's supposed to have Browse and Library.  They show up for a split second when I fist load the app, then disappear.  Are these features on premium only?

Hey @IndyLux,

Thanks for posting to the community, and welcome to Spotify! This idea was already submitted to the Spotify Team over here.

To ensure Spotify feels familiar across all the different platforms and moments in peoples lives, Spotify works hard to ensure the experience feels like Spotify everywhere, which means Spotify follows their own UI guidelines and would not follow the material design guidelines.

However, Spotify's always sensitive to the nuances of the platform guidelines and work hard to balance the familiarity of the platform with the familiarity of Spotify.

With regards to the missing buttons, can you please try reinstalling the app? This handy-dandy article will show you how: https://support.spotify.com/article/reinstallation-of-spotify/

Cheers,

Tim

Tim, I think I’m experiencing a different issue. I’m missing icons that are supposed to be there (I think). I don’t have a ‘hamburger’ menu to get the options shown in the link you sent me to. Can you look again?

Yep - So I'm pretty sure that those icons are meant to be their for everyone. Here are the steps to to a clean uninstall of Spotify on Android:

  1. From the Android Apps screen, tap Settings > Apps.
  2. Find Spotify in your list of apps, tap it. For older Android devices, navigate to Settings > Applications > Manage applications.
  3. Tap Clear Data. If you're using Android 6.0+, tap Storage > Clear Data
  4. Tap Uninstall.
For a clean reinstall, go to Storage > Android > Data and delete a folder called com.spotify.music
  5. Open Google Play then search for and install the Spotify Music app.

Let me know if that helps! I can take a few screenshots to guide you through, if you're still having some issues.

Cheers,
Tim

Ok, even crazier…

I figured out how to clean install.

When I clean installed and saw the library button for a split second, I clicked it. Could see my albums and artists fine. Hit back, icons were gone and I can’t get back to browse, radio or library. CRAZY RIGHT?

That's really weird.

If you have access to another account, would you be able to try on that account? If you could also take some screenshots and give me the app version (Device Settings > Apps > Spotify. It should be under the app title), that would help a lot.

Cheers!

Tim

I'll try another account. Here are the screenshots.

Plot thickens, it's the account! Made another account on the same phone and the app looks normal.... Issue is I just transferred my account from Groove Music and now I want to move everything over to this functioning account. I'll try to play with that. What an odd problem.
