Running Spotify in the background of Kiii TV Box

My organization recently purchased a Kiii Quad-core OTT TV Box intending to use the box for digital signage projection in our lobby via Xibo, as well as provide some background music by running Spotify Premium. The tv box runs Android 5.1. I have been unable to get the box to play Spotify in the background behind Xibo or any other app. Is there anything I can be doing to make this box work for us?
